At the request of National President Dillon, the Board of Directors voted to increase the number and funding for the Sergeant Major Douglas R. Drum Memorial Scholarships awarded for the college school year beginning in September 2008. The scholarships were increased from 16 to 24 scholarships as well as the value of the scholarships.

As an organization, we are committed to helping our members, their spouse, children and grandchildren in their quest for a college education.

President Dillon stated, "The current increase in scholarships is due to our fundraising efforts and the generosity of our members. It is gratifying when we help our fellow military retirees and their families to pursue a college education. The best gift we can give someone is to help them get an education. Once a person is educated, no one can take that away from them."
