AMRA MISSION STATEMENT
"The American Military Retirees Association (AMRA) encourages military retirees to band together to protect earned benefits by educating on benefits available and advocating for the protection of earned benefits through active monitoring of legislation in the U.S. Congress and the policies and proposals of the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs."

"Wish you could get together with service buddies?"
"Wish you could get involved in retiree issues?"
"Wish you could do something to help the troops?"
FORMING A NEW AMRA CHAPTER
will help you connect with other retirees living in your area who may already be AMRA members and are interested in starting a local chapter.

The American Military Retirees Association (AMRA) was formed in 1973 in the Village of Saranac Lake in Franklin County, New York. Currently, the National Headquarters is located in Plattsburgh, New York.
The four main purposes of AMRA are:
- To protect and preserve the vested rights, benefits and privileges of military personnel.
- To provide a means to sponsor, foster, and encourage legislation affecting the status of all military retired personnel regardless of rank.
- To foster the welfare of survivors and dependent children of retired military personnel.
- To provide a means of social contact for all members and their families.
In addition, AMRA raises funds for our memorial scholarship fund and other worthwhile projects. Also, AMRA is consistently searching to add new benefits to its strong member benefits program. Please consider joining us to continue this work.
Please look around the AMRA website and contact us if you have any questions. |

AMRA works hard to protect the benefits of all retirees and veterans. We all know that there is strength in numbers and Congress does pay attention to constituents...please add YOUR voice by letting your Congressmen and Senators know how you feel. If we can add enough like-opinions to our side of the scoreboard, we can make a big difference in the lives of retirees.
Senate bill S.1932 and H.R. 3943 would expand a joint program run by the Departments of Defense and Education to help separated members of the active duty military, National Guard and Reserves become teachers in the public education system and the number of schools in which program participants can receive a stipend to gain their teacher certification. These bills fulfill the need for separated members of the military to pursue careers, while providing schools with qualified and dedicated teachers.
Contact your Senators and ask them to support S.1932 by cosponsoring this legislation. When contacting your Representatives, the House bill is H.R. 3943. Use AMRA’s Contact Congress tool at the bottom of the home page at www.amra1973.org.
Contact your Senators and Congressmen and lend your support to the two bills listed below. Indications are that military retirees could save approximately $800 per year if these bills become law.
- S. 491 has been introduced in the Senate and H.R. 1203 in the House of Representatives…both read as follows:
To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to allow Federal civilian and military retirees to pay health insurance premiums on a pretax basis and to allow a deduction for TRICARE supplemental premiums
