The American Military Retirees Association (AMRA) was formed in 1973 in the Village of Saranac Lake in Franklin County, New York. Currently, the National Headquarters is located in Plattsburgh, New York.
The four main purposes of AMRA are:
- To protect and preserve the vested rights, benefits and privileges of military personnel.
- To provide a means to sponsor, foster, and encourage legislation affecting the status of all military retired personnel regardless of rank.
- To foster the welfare of survivors and dependent children of retired military personnel.
- To provide a means of social contact for all members and their families.
In addition, AMRA raises funds for our memorial scholarship fund and other worthwhile projects. Also, AMRA is consistently searching to add new benefits to its strong member benefits program. Please consider joining us to continue this work.
Please look around the AMRA website and contact us if you have any questions. |

Contact your Senators and Congressmen and lend your support to the two bills listed below. Indications are that military retirees could save approximately $800 per year if these bills become law.
- S. 491 has been introduced in the Senate and H.R. 1203 in the House of Representatives…both read as follows:
To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to allow Federal civilian and military retirees to pay health insurance premiums on a pretax basis and to allow a deduction for TRICARE supplemental premiums
On your behalf, AMRA has written letters on issues important to military retirees and veterans. Now it’s YOUR turn to take ACTION on these bills by contacting your legislatords and ors. Scroll down to the Legislative News section, adapt our letters into your own wmail or fax your Senators and Congressman today! Use AMRA’s Contact Congress function to find out who your representatives are and how to contact them. If you’d like more information on any of these bills before writing your letter, we recommend www.thomas.gov .
- H.R. 816
SUBJECT: To prohibit certain increases in fees for military health care. Encourage Congress to include language from H.R. 816 as they draft the FY10 National Defense Authorization Act.
- S.423 in the Senate and H.R.1016 in the House.
SUBJECT: To require "advance appropriations" for the Veterans Administration's medical care accounts. Funding the VA medical accounts at a minimum of one year in advance would lessen the burden VA encounters when budgets are late.
AMRA works hard to protect the benefits of all retirees and veterans. We all know that there is strength in numbers and Congress does pay attention to constituents...please add YOUR voice by letting your Congressmen and Senators know how you feel. If we can add enough like-opinions to our side of the scoreboard, we can make a big difference in the lives of retirees.
